| i had this email in my inbox when i got to work this morning: To Whom It May Concern, The first question of the survey is as follows:"Survey 1: What Changed Did You See in 2002/03?The 2002-03 budget approved by the Board of Governors set aside $4.3 million of the increase in tuition revenue for student financial support and allocated $9 million for enhanced learning and student support." I find the lack of grammar checking in the question a disgrace to the university. re: "What CHANGED Did You See in 2002/03". If this question represents the students and standards of the University of British Columbia, then we must reevaluate the stance of the university. In a world of written communication, the importance of spelling and grammar checking can not be overstressed. oiio wanted to reply with this: dear Lis: in the world of touch typing, the "d" and the "s" are beside each other, on the left hand side of the qerty keyboard; what this means for most of us who are right-handed is that the odd typo, often left-hand related, creeps in; transposing "d"'s for "s"'s is a common one. i wouldn't get too upset about it, and i do not personally believe this reflects a degradation in the quality of language of our culture, university-affiliated or not. i wanted to say: dear lis, i agree with you fully. i have arranged to have the irresponsible fool's hands cut off. i really hope that little "d" didn't cause you too much pain or anguish, i assure you, i meant you no harm stupid hoooor. people! lighten the fuck up ok! |
